A note from the developer:
‘This is a very special instrument for me! The project started in 2018 when I was working together with Universal Audio for the creation of an 80s drum kit for their DAW LUNA. At the time, I sampled many classic drum machines and was lucky to have access to amazing classic hardware in various studios in Austria.
When I sampled the Linn LM1 and LM2 and processed the sounds through a Neve preamp and a Lexicon reverb, I was instantly taken back to my childhood: this was exactly the sound of tons of hit records from that time. And because of the 80s revival, the drums were still as fresh and efficient as ever! Parallel to the creation of the kit for UAD, I also created a Kontakt instrument with the Linn Drum samples for my own use. Over the years, I noticed that it was always my go-to drum instrument when I needed these classic drum tracks.
So a few months ago, I decided to make it available for Loops de la Crème users. To make it as useful as possible, I created new sets of samples, designed drop-down menus and grooves, and even added freshly recorded acoustic ride and crash samples. The beta Kontakt instrument has turned into a great tool and a really cool tribute to the Linn Drums. I had tons of fun working on a few audio tracks for the video demo: obviously, these sounds are timeless and versatile, and they will always work in many music settings.

Click on the sample’s name to open a drop-down menu with all available options for this drum element. The samples are organised from top to bottom according to the processing: you’ll find the most punchy and raw at the top of the list, and the most extremely processed at the bottom.

Bonus acoustic cymbal sets:
The original crash and ride samples in the Linn Drums were very short, punchy, but not very elegant. In the 80s, many producers asked their drummer to overdub real cymbals on top of a Linn Drum beat instead of using the original cymbal samples. To offer you this option, three bonus sets of acoustic crash and ride cymbals were added to the original samples! These samples were recorded in mono to better integrate with the other Linn Drum sounds. They use several velocity layers for a more dynamic and organic sound. These bonus samples are elegant and add a new sonic dimension to the Linn drums!
Instantly create drum arrangements with your mod wheel!
All presets feature 7 tempo-synced beats and 5 fill-ins. You can easily switch between rhythms and improvise variations and rolls with your modulation wheel: 4 groove variations and 4 beat repeats/rolls are pre-programmed and can be played with your mod wheel.
With the grooves and the variations, creating a complete drum track is quick, intuitive, and fun!
Play many sounds at once with one full set of custom kits:
The instrument FULL SET OF KITS lets you play many sounds at once: it features 8 custom kits. Each kit is mapped out on one octave, with all kicks on C, snares on D, hi-hats on F#, etc..
This set is perfect to quickly try different sounds for your productions, and also to layer sounds together :)
Classic drum processing with top gear
Access all samples in their raw and pure version or explore a huge variety of processed sounds! A lot of taste, love, and world-class studio hardware were used to create these unique samples.
For punch, character, and tasty saturation, many samples were processed with a NEVE 33115 preamp, an API 550B equalizer, and a UREI 1178 limiter. Many classic gated reverb sounds were achieved using a LEXICON 480L reverb.
Top-quality software was also used to create a wider range of sounds, including original and inspiring sound effects and designed hits.
The result is an ensemble of varied, efficient, and legendary drum sounds that will be fun to combine and highly inspiring!
Easily fit the drums in your mix with the included effects
Easily control the volume, panning and tuning of each drum element using the built-in mixer.
An intuitive and highly efficient chain of effects lets you quickly alter the sound and fit the drums in your mix:
Shape the drums with the 3-band EQ, and bring them forward with a characterful overdrive. Use the TAPE switch for an instant retro vibe, with smooth filtering and a very tasty saturation. An output compressor lets you control dynamics and emphasize punchy transients.
Finally, keep the sound super dry or choose one of the 10 custom Impulse Responses to recreate classic drum ambiances!
